Our shared kitchen is cleaned three times a week by a cleaning staff. However, it is important that everyone tidies up and wipes down used surfaces briefly with a cloth or sponge so that others feel comfortable preparing their food there as well.
Pots and dishes should not be left in the kitchen for more than a few hours before being put away (washed or unwashed). With almost 30 residents, it is simply not possible for everyone to clutter up the surfaces with their utensils. Pots that remain on the countertop for too long may be placed in the cupboard under the sink by anyone. If you would like a cupboard compartment in the kitchen, please contact the current floor representative. They usually have an updated plan and can assign a free compartment if available.
Only kitchen waste may be disposed of in the kitchen. This means that you must take items like liquor bottles or paper waste to the appropriate trash bins or glass containers yourself. The trash is emptied according to the calendar in the kitchen.
The refrigerators must be cleaned by the users at the beginning of each semester. A deadline for this will be announced by the current floor representative. The users themselves are responsible for the cleaning.
Sponges, dish soap, baking paper, salt, and toilet paper are purchased collectively. If there is none left in the kitchen or restrooms, please take more from the storage room in the men's bathroom. If supplies are running low, inform the shopping service or post in the floor group. There should never be more than one roll of toilet paper in the restrooms at a time.
The common room is available to everyone for game nights or occasionally even parties. The most important thing is to clean up afterward and mop if necessary, and to avoid unnecessary noise, especially during the week. Conversely, we ask that anyone who feels disturbed by loud parties or similar first speak to the responsible person directly before contacting the floor representative or even the police. Beverages are regularly purchased and restocked by a (very great) resident. When purchasing a drink, it must either be marked with a line on the provided list, paid for in cash in the piggy bank on the refrigerator, or sent via PayPal to bierkaserne@gmail.com. The list is checked and settled regularly.
Every two days, the trash bins in the kitchen are emptied by residents. This explicitly includes glass waste. Please check the calendar in the kitchen to see when your room is scheduled. If you are unavailable on your assigned date, make sure to find someone to swap with in advance. Each time you fail to complete your task, an increasing fine will be charged, which must be paid to the floor fund via the floor representative. Some rooms are exempt from garbage duty because the residents have taken on other responsibilities. There is a separate garbage duty for the restrooms.
A communal table with benches is stored in the stairwell basement and may be freely used (e.g., for studying, grilling, beer pong, etc.). It is essential to wipe it down after each use, regardless of the activity. If the tablecloth or cushions are used, they should be washed if necessary. If you would like to borrow the table for a day or take it to the lake/park, please arrange this in advance with an event tutor.
The floor has a small kettle grill that can be used freely when needed. It is important not to grill near dry vegetation and always to have the small fire extinguisher from the common room nearby. The grill grate should be cleaned after each use, and the ashes must be emptied (ensure they are completely cooled). If the grill is still hot, it may be left in front of the bike storage for a while, but it must be put back inside by the next day at the latest.
Each person is responsible for their own charcoal, but there is often a bag of charcoal next to the grill that can be used for one 'beer tally' per person in the common room.
Some time ago, communal handcarts were purchased that residents are free to use. However, they must be returned in perfect condition and clean. Please contact your event tutor beforehand if you want to use one.
The floor has a JBL Partybox Stage 320 with microphones, which residents can borrow and use for free when needed. Please contact the event tutor for more details.
